I am an absolute candle connoisseur. One of my favourite books is Perfume by Patrick Suskind. Scent intrigues me the way it can conjure up memories and emotions.

My first candle I fell in love with was Figuire by Diptque. I then became obsessed with Cire Trudon, I was amazed how a candle could smell like an oiled church floor,

When we opened our Shop Wells Trading Company I was determined to find a New Zealand brand that measured up to my favourite Parisian candles. For years there was nothing, then Hivern hit the market. Tamara and Christopher have managed to encapsulate many beautiful scents that linger in the room for hours. I am particularly fond of Black Orchid & Clove, one of our best sellers. The range is selling incredibly well, once a customer buys a Hivern product they always come back for another.

As a New Zealander I am incredibly proud of what Tamara and Christopher have created, I think Hivern is world class.

Having spent a life in big, often malodorous cities, the sanctuary of smell is second to none to my wife and I. It's the sense we control most in our home and we take it so seriously, as our 14 bottles of fragrance and myriad 3/4 burned candles can attest.

Kathryn introduced us to Hivern. She bought a Black Orchid and Clove candle at a friend's inspiration. The honest games we played over the next month of 'hide the Hivern so he/she doesn't burn it too quickly', and 'honey, have you seen my Hivern candle' as I would steal it for an hour's worth of infusing my study are unprecendented for me in my 53 years.

We are big fans of Diptyque, Malin and Goetz, and Byredo candles and diffusers among others. Buying candles is a luxury we will always afford ourselves. My wife and I can honestly say Hivern is now at the top of our list. Personally, its impact awakens my senses the moment I walk into the room. It often stops me in my tracks, has me close my eyes and just enjoy all that is for a long beat.

I first came across Hivern through being gifted one of their Black Orchid & Clove diffusers. The impact was instant in terms of the incredible packaging, but little did I know how much ongoing pleasure I would get from the scent.

I am, with a doubt a luxury candle aficionado, and I feel Hivern is as good as anything internationally and better than anything in Australasia.

It’s an extraordinarily well-conceived lineup and business concept. Christopher's involvement gives the music concept so much authenticity… lots of brands attempt to flesh things out with music but lack this level of believability.
